Narconon (meaning “no drugs”) is a secular drug rehabilitation and education programme that utilises the drug handling technology developed by L. Ron Hubbard with highly effective results. It is an autonomous charitable programme independent of Scientology churches, supported by Scientologists around the world who volunteer their time and talents. Another aspect of drug education critical to preventing abuse is to provide children and students the opportunity to hear directly from individuals with firsthand experience in overcoming drug abuse, or from professional drug counsellors. Such drug education lectures are an integral part of the community service programmes offered by Narconon, with these volunteers delivering “Truth About Drugs” lectures to students of all ages through 80 drug education centres around the world.
This popular programme has reached more than 2.5 million children with the truth about drugs. Narconon’s drug prevention specialists take a unique approach in their lectures: Rather than using “scare tactics” that have yielded indifferent results, Narconon’s speakers help students achieve their own understanding of the damage drugs can do to an individual. As a result, students who attend these lectures are far less likely to get started on drugs.
